I started working on this beauty today and thought I'd knock it off in no time. Unfortunately after pulling the front wheel off, I discovered that the axle had a terribly gritty feel when it was turned. I took it apart assuming I'd just have to clean it and give it some new grease, but there was more to it than that. One of the balls in the bearing had split in two. Obviously this gouged out the cone as well. I'm off to Babcocks tomorrow to see if I can scrounge a bearing and cone that will fit.
